The Fluharty family has been involved in agricultural production for decades. Beginning in West Virginia, then Michigan and finally Texas, the Fluharty family has been involved in row crop, orchard and beef cattle production. We are all too familiar with the challenges facing agriculture, especially the beef industry.

 

To best serve the needs of progressive commercial cattlemen in our area, Scot and Jay first settled on the Angus breed to provide the base line necessities for their customers. Recognized as the American beef industry leader, the Angus breed provides superior maternal and carcass quality attributes, helping Angus sired calves earn premiums at every marketing point.

 

There is no substitute for the Angus breed. CAB (Certified Angus Beef) has single handedly turned our beef industry around by supplying the consumer with the highest quality product out there. We congratulate CAB for another remarkable year of product growth, which in turn has created more demand for our customer’s Angus sired calves.

 

Our Angus program revolves around a core performance oriented females and a small, but elite set of donor cows. We stress fertility, environmental adaptation, optimum performance and functionality in our cowherd. Every time we breed a cow, we are trying to produce a bull for customer. For us, unlike many seedstock operations, bulls are not a by-product of a massive ET program designed to mass-produce high dollar females.

 

In 2008, we added the Charolais breed to our program. With the dominance of Angus based cowherds, it became obvious that our customers were looking to add hybrid vigor to their cows. The Charolais breed was an obvious choice for their ability to add pounds, maintain carcass quality and still earn a premium at every marketing point. Our Charolais bulls are designed to work on Angus based cows. We stress Calving Ease as our first criteria. Everything else is secondary to Calving Ease. After that we stress weaning weight and finally carcass quality.
